Simon van Kempen
Simon van Kempen

Simon returned with his family to live in the Northern Rivers in 2014 after a 33 year international business career. His property finance career began as a senior accountant for the Ritz Hotel in London and grew as Finance Director and Property Acquisitions Specialist. Additionally Simon spent 12 years working in the New York City hotel market in financial, asset management and senior operational roles.

The principles that underpinned this extensive international activity ensure that the purchase of a family home will receive exactly the same attention as a multi-million dollar transaction.


Adam van Kempen
Adam van Kempen

Adam graduated with honours from Southern Cross University School of Law & Justice with a Bachelor of Laws. His early years were spent living on the Far North Coast of NSW and, after completing his high schooling in Brisbane and Sydney, he trained as a chef operating restaurants and catering businesses in Sydney before working as the Executive Chef at a 5 star hotel in China. In 2002 Adam merged his extensive first hand small business experience with a law career when he returned with his family to live in the Northern Rivers. Adam is the principal of BVK Solicitors & Attorneys, a practice established in Byron Bay over 30 years ago.

Adam’s membership of the boards of Sprung!! Integrated Dance Theatre Inc. and Byron Writers Festival shows his strong commitment to the local community.


Sue Rado (van Kempen)

Sue works between the family firms of BVK Solicitors Attorneys and van Kempen & Associates as Office & HR Manager, Graphic & Web Designer and Marketing & Advertising person. During her working life Sue has fulfilled admin and creative roles in many large and small companies in Australia, the UK, and Hungary. She returned to Australia in 2013, after living for 15 years in Budapest, where she gained further experience with international businesses and became fluent in Hungarian.

Having worked with Adam in restaurants and catering, decades before, she was delighted when he asked her would she join the firm in 2013.


Claire Dolesny
Claire Dolesny

Claire graduated from Bond University with a Bachelor of Laws, with a speciality in Commercial Law and promptly entered the legal workforce whilst concurrently completing her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice to become an admitted solicitor before she was 21 years old. Claire spent the next three years developing her skills in the areas of residential and commercial property, including timeshare, as well as wills and estates.

Claire originally hails from Launceston, Tasmania, but has now lived on the Gold Coast for over 13 years where she considers herself a local. She is currently on maternity leave.


Dakota Stephenson

Dakota graduated with Bachelor of Laws from Griffith University in 2018. She then completed the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice in 2019, aged 21. Dakota started with BVK Solicitors Attorneys on a part-time basis in 2020 and joined van Kempen & Associates as a full-time Solicitor in 2021. She enjoys the diversity of working between Conveyancing, Wills and Estates, Leasing and General Agreements.

Dakota was born in Kempsey and has lived in QLD since 2007, initially in Townsville and from 2015 on the Gold Coast. In her spare time she enjoys camping and going to the beach.


Gemma Roughan

Gemma is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Legal & Justice Studies majoring in Conveyancing at Southern Cross University. She joined van Kempen & Associates in 2019 as Receptionist and is now taking on more Conveyancing duties as she progresses in her studies.

Gemma enjoys the diversity that the difference between QLD and NSW property law provides.

Originally from Brisbane, Gemma has been on the Tweed coast since 1998. In her spare time she pursues her love of health and fitness and has been a national rower for 3 years and is currently a strongwoman competitor.


Kimberly Newman

Kimberly grew up in the Byron Shire and moved to Brisbane after completing year 12. She worked in large law firms gaining experience in personal injury having worked her way up from receptionist to paralegal and then in defendant insurance as a PA.

Having moved back to the Byron area in 2015 for work-life balance Kimberly started working in leasing and joined the Peter A Smith Law Practice in 2020 as a conveyancing paralegal.

Kimberly has 2 small children who keep her happy and busy and she and the family love getting away for camping trips to the beach in their spare time.
